Costa Rica
Costa Rica travel guide
Volcano, forest, Pacific. Give each one time.
THE LOOP TAKE
For a 10-night holiday, we would choose two areas. Spend four nights near Arenal for rainforest, waterfalls and hot springs. Then move to the Pacific for six nights by the beach. Trying to add Monteverde, Manuel Antonio and the Osa Peninsula on top usually means too much time in a car.

WAYS TO DO COSTA RICA
Arenal and the Pacific are the easiest first combination. Choose Monteverde instead if cloud forest and cooler evenings matter more than the volcano. Choose the Osa Peninsula only if wildlife is the main reason you are going. It needs more time, not less.

02Choose Monteverde when mist, forest walks and a cooler different part of the trip matter more than seeing every coast.
03For deep wilderness and wildlife context, give the Osa Peninsula enough nights rather than adding it to an already full circuit.
04The right coast depends on the hotel setting, transfer appetite and what you want from the beach after the green interior.
CHOOSE A BASE
Stay near Arenal if you want forest walks, waterfalls and hot springs in the first few days. For the coast, decide whether you want restaurants nearby, surf, calmer water, a quieter hotel or a more remote beach. That choice matters more than simply picking the prettiest photo.

01For rainforest, volcanic landscape and a strong opening chapter. Views, access and volcanic conditions remain date-specific.
02For cloud forest and a cooler, more inward-looking version of the country. It is a choice, not an automatic add-on.
03For couples who want wildlife and wilderness to take over the itinerary. It needs a dedicated chapter.
04For a beach finish. We select the coast around the atmosphere, hotel and transfer reality you actually want.
THE DESTINATION, FELT
Arenal is for rainforest, waterfalls and hot springs. Monteverde is for cloud forest and cooler evenings. The Osa Peninsula is for couples who want wildlife to be the focus. The Pacific is for a beach finish. Pick two, not all four.

WHEN TO GO
The Pacific and Caribbean do not have the same weather pattern. If beach time is important, we start with your month of travel and work backwards. We check current conditions before confirming any boat, wildlife or volcano day.
A good time for
Seasonal conditions affect the balance of sun, rain and sea time. We check the particular coast around the dates.
A good time for
Its weather pattern differs from the Pacific. It should be a deliberate regional choice, not a generic swap.
A good time for
Visibility, trails and activity conditions are variable. We design for the experience, not a guaranteed view.
GOOD TO KNOW
National park entry slots, volcanic conditions, roads and domestic flights can affect the shape of a day. We plan the key experiences, but do not fill every hour. Costa Rica is better when there is room to change the plan if the weather has other ideas.
Entry and health
Check current passport, entry and health requirements through the relevant official guidance before travel.
National parks
Some park systems and access arrangements are managed through official conservation channels and can change.
Wildlife
We plan around habitats and responsible observation, never a promised encounter.
A SHAPE TO BEGIN WITH
The first half gives you rainforest, waterfalls and activity days. The second half is for the beach, long lunches and doing less. It is a good first Costa Rica trip because it has contrast without moving every other day.
