Tanzania travel guide

Tanzania

Choose the ecosystem. Give it time.

THE LOOP TAKE

GIVE THE SAFARI AREAS ENOUGH NIGHTS.

For a Northern Circuit route, we would use three nights in Tarangire, two in the Ngorongoro Highlands and four in the Serengeti. That gives you time in each landscape instead of spending most mornings changing camps. Add Zanzibar only if you want a separate beach chapter after safari.

WAYS TO DO TANZANIA

CHOOSE NORTH OR SOUTH BEFORE YOU CHOOSE CAMPS.

The Northern Circuit is the best first route for Tarangire, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. The south is better for couples who want fewer camps and more remote parks. Do not try to combine both on a short trip.

01

Northern Tanzania, properly paced

Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Highlands and the Serengeti with enough nights in each. Add Zanzibar only if a beach chapter belongs in the trip.

02

South, with space around it

Nyerere and Ruaha for a more remote two-camp safari route. It works best when it has enough nights around it.

03

Safari, then Stone Town

A city-and-coast finish for couples who want a distinct cultural chapter before the beach, not simply extra nights by the sea.

04

Kilimanjaro as its own trip

Treat a mountain route as a specialist trip, not an add-on to a safari that already deserves time.

CHOOSE A BASE

MAKE CAMP MOVES WORTH THE FLIGHT OR DRIVE.

Tarangire, the highlands and the Serengeti each give you a different landscape. Camp position is set around the time of year and practical movement, not a promise that the migration will be outside your tent.

01

Tarangire

For baobabs, river country and a useful first Northern Circuit chapter. Wildlife varies with season and conditions.

02

Ngorongoro and the Highlands

For a highland contrast and a different kind of safari day, with conservation-area rules and route logistics checked around the dates.

03

Serengeti

For open grassland and a deeper safari chapter. Migration location, camp positioning and animal movement are never fixed promises.

04

Zanzibar

For a true post-safari different part of the trip. Stone Town and the beach can do different jobs, if the itinerary has enough nights for both.

THE DESTINATION, FELT

BUILD THE ROUTE BY ECOSYSTEM.

Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Highlands and the Serengeti are different safari areas, not three versions of the same day. Zanzibar is a separate beach and culture chapter. Choose the areas that matter most and give each enough nights.

WHEN TO GO

START WITH THE SEASON, NOT A MIGRATION POST.

Animal movement, rain and road conditions change across Tanzania. We use current park and conservation information to choose the safari area. We never promise an exact river crossing or animal encounter.

A good time for

Drier months

Often suit a classic safari shape, while exact wildlife distribution still depends on the ecosystem and current conditions.

A good time for

Green periods

Can bring different scenery, birdlife and a quieter feel. Rain and road conditions are part of the route conversation.

A good time for

Zanzibar dates

Weather, sea conditions and island-specific arrival details are checked separately from the safari plan.

GOOD TO KNOW

SAFARI LOGISTICS NEED A CURRENT CHECK.

Visa, health, park, flight and island-arrival requirements can change. We check them around your dates, particularly if Zanzibar is part of the route, before making any day or camp move feel fixed.

Entry and visas

Use Tanzania Immigration and current official travel guidance to check visa, passport and health requirements before travel.

Parks and conservation areas

Access, fees, routes and operational conditions are confirmed with the relevant park or conservation authority.

Flights and remote movement

Bush-air arrangements, road conditions and the practical limits of remote areas are designed around the final camps and dates.

A SHAPE TO BEGIN WITH

NORTHERN TANZANIA, PROPERLY PACED.

A clearly illustrative 13-night route: three nights in Tarangire, two in the highlands, four in the Serengeti and four on Zanzibar. Each chapter has a different reason for being there.
